Runway shows offer various trends for Fall 2010.

With the runways shows for fall already complete, fashion lovers have gotten a good preview of what accessory trends are popular for Fall 2010. Some of these looks are already in stores for those who want to get a head start on their autumn wardrobe. Other trends may already be in one's closet!

Pointy Toed Shoes

Shoes with pointy toes were all the rage awhile ago, then they faded into the background in favor of rounded toe platforms or flats. But pointy toed shoes are making a comeback, both in heels or the flattest of flats. Pointy toes are flattering, as they tend to make feet look slimmer than toes with round or square toes. Valentino and Prada are two designers to feature pointy toed shoes with extremely high heels.

Pointy toed shoes are very versatile. They look great with casual jeans and a sweater or a dress or skirt. There are many varieties, from run-around-town flats to fancier heels.

Leather

Leather is being shown in clothing as well, from soft jackets to skirts and pants, but leather is also a great fabric for accessories. Besides handbags, leather often is shown in hair accessories (such as headbands or flower hairclips) and hats. Even leather undergarments (mainly corsets, but some underwear, too) have been shown. There’s a growing use of bright or pastel colors in leather -- gone are the days of black, brown and gray. Faux leather is also improving; it looks more realistic than in years past.

Scarves

The scarf trend keeps growing! Patterns are trendy for fall, anything from stripes to harlequin to tie-dye. There are also variations on the traditional scarf, such as scarves with a hole in the middle to put over one‘s head (the ends then wrap around like a normal scarf.) Gauzy scarves are usually on display during summer, but come fall, heavier fabrics such as wool or cashmere quickly become available in most stores.

Big Sunglasses

Big sunglasses are back… or perhaps they never really went away? Alexander Wang was one designer to show models with oversized frames in his fall show. Designer sunglasses aren’t necessarily a must -- similar types of sunglasses can be found at discount stores such as Forever 21. Neutral colors are ideal for wear-everyday styles, while patterns and prints (such as leopard) can be fun to jazz up an outfit.
